Some blog about something they love. Others, however, focus on the topic’s potential to generate revenue.
This begs the question:
Can you blog about anything?
Yes, you can blog about anything – be it fashion, food, businesses, finance, tech, or any topic that has demand. To increase profitability, stick to a single topic to build authority and attract readers who will spend money on solutions.
I know, you probably have a list of different interests that you’d like to write about.
But if you want to take blogging seriously, I urge you to focus on one topic or niche ONLY.
Let me tell you why.
Why should you stick to single topic?
Here are five reasons why your blog should focus on a single topic:
1. Google prefers relevancy
To get appear in search engines, you need to build relevancy in your chosen niche. You can do this by publishing numerous, high-quality articles about the subject and anything related to it.
2. Establish yourself as an expert
If you write about unrelated topics in one blog, it’s much harder to prove your expertise in a specific field. Writing about a single niche extensively will make readers recognize your authority and believe in your trustworthiness.
3. Better content quality
The more you focus on one topic, the more you learn about it and its subtopics. You’ll learn about the你的目标受众的确切痛点– thus, help you address them better in future articles.
4. Make more money
With better content, authority, and visibility in search engines, you’ll be able to draw more prospective customers into your blog. Furthermore, it will be easier to find and recommend the right products that will pique your readers’ interest.

What a good blog topic looks like?
The ideal blog topic is something you enjoy writing about AND popular enough to build an online readership. Because, let’s face it, if you’re only writing for yourself, you might as well write in a private journal.
Below are some of the things that make a topic excellent for blogging:
1. It’s about a hobby, lifestyle, or problem
Blogging about hobbies, lifestyles, and problems makes perfect sense. Apart from their popularity, these are the kind of topics people are willing to spend money on.
2. It has enough audience size
If you want tomake money with your blog, check if there are enough people looking for your desired niche. You can check the number of people following the topic on websites like Facebook, Reddit, and Quora.
Just remember that this is just one side of the coin.
I normally recommend doing nose-deep research on determining the potential of a blog topic. But more on that later.
3. You’re personally interested in it
Here’s a tip: start with the things you personally enjoy. Blogging about something you’re genuinely passionate about will keep you motivated for years to come.
你的网友ld also be able to tell if there are loads of people searching for your topic from the get-go.
4. There are profitable products within its space
Before you commit to a topic, make sure there are relevant products or services that could sell well. You can create your own products or promote the products of another company for a price – or both.
A quick search on Amazon can help you look for potential products to promote on your blog.
It’s also wise to check existing blogs in your chosen niche to borrow product ideas. This brings us to the next point:
5. There aren’t too many big players
Newbies should avoid picking a highly competitive topic with several big-name bloggers already. The reason is simple:it’s extremely difficult to compete against existing popular blogs as a newcomer.
They have bigger budgets, more followers, and a higher authority – making it hard to steal readers from them. Not to mention that Google will prefer bigger bloggers who’ve been around for longer in search engine results.
Here’s another tip: try to look at the 5Ps – Passion, Problem, Persona, Potential, and Payment.
- Step 1:Look at your own passions
- Step 2:Determine how your passion solves a problem
- Step 3:Check and understand the people or “personas” you can help
- Step 4:Analyze if there’s enough demand for it
- Step 5:Look for ways you can make money from your passions
Focusing on the 5Ps will help you discover a profitable niche that you can stick to in the long run. Just don’t forget to check the competition to see if the industry has room for new players.

A personal blog functions as an online diary, describing events that occur in your everyday life. Again, this only works if you’re already popular OR blog about other topics as well.
3. YMYL niches
YMYL or “Your Money or Your Life” blogs discuss subjects that can affect a person’s finances and physical health. Blog about these topics ONLY if you are a certified expert or have proven your authority in the space.
4. Unprofitable topics
Blogging about things like biographies, quotes, and music lyrics is fine IF you don’t plan to make money. But if you do, look for other related topics that can attract paying customers, like music tutorials and book reviews.

Some bloggers create multiple niche blogs about topics they’re not particularly interested in. This will only work if you’re willing to spend hours learning about the topic or if you hire a freelancer.
